Closet Clean Out: Tips For Letting Go

How To Decide When To Let Go of Clothes

As a personal stylist, I help my clients go through their closet on a regular basis. I often find that people have many reasons for hanging on to clothes that no longer serve them. Having an emotional tie to pieces is a top reason - an item may remind you of a certain experience or time in your life. Or, maybe you spent a lot of money on a leather blazer but have yet to wear it. Being honest about what is serving you and your current life style is very important to keep at the forefront of your mind when you dive into a large task like a closet clean out.

The reward? Clearing out the clutter allows you to see the items that ARE serving you and can make getting dressed every day a more effortless experience.

Here is the checklist I use when helping my clients clean out their closet:

  1. Does it fit?

  2. Do I love it?

  3. Would I buy it again?

  4. When was the last time I work it?

    • If yes, how often

  5. How do I feel when I wear it?

  6. Does it fit my current lifestyle?

  7. What do I wish I owned instead?

  8. Is it comfortable?

  9. Is it damaged?

  10. Do I feel confident when I wear it?

I don’t think I need to explain the reasons you need to ask yourself these questions! If you need professional opinion, I help my clients clean out their closets and curate a wardrobe that serves them with the lifestyle they are living right now.

We also determine what may be missing from their closet to create an effortless wardrobe that will make getting dressed every day a breeze - and digitize your wardrobe so you can visually see what is in your closet, all on your own app.
